According to Chinese calendar (阴历; Yin Li), The celebration of Chinese New Year in 2022, or the year of the Water Tiger 2022, will fall on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. Chinese New Year 2022 is also the same as Huangdi Era (HE) 4719.

After passing the Chinese New Year 2022 (CNY 2022), the Chinese ethnic community in Indonesia will also celebrate several other important holidays, including :

Yuan Xiao Day (Cap Go Meh), Ceng Beng Day (Grave pilgrimage), Duan Wu Day (Bakcang & Dragon Boat Festival), Qixi Day (Chinese Valentine), Zhong Yuan Day (Fighting Prayers), Zhong Qiu Day (Pia Bulan Cake; Spring Festival), Chong Yang Day (9 months 9 Chinese New Year) dan Hari Dong Zhi (Winter Solstice Festival).

A. These are the Schedules of the Celebration Festivals in Chinese Tradition in 2022 :

1. Chinese New Year (春节; Chun Jie): 1st day of 1st month Chinese calendar 4719 (Tuesday, February 01, 2022).

2. Cap Go Meh (元宵节; Yuan Xiao Jie): 15th day of 15th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Tuesday, February 15, 2022).

3. Ceng Beng Day, or Grave pilgrimage day (清明节; Qing Ming Jie): Tuesday, April 05, 2022.

In 2022, there is no Lun Gwee (Lunisolar calendar), or years of adjustment, where there are 2 times of the same month (usually once every 2-3 years).

4. Bakcang Day (端午节; Duan Wu Jie), or Bakcang and Dragon Boat Festival: 5th day of 5th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Friday, June 03, 2022).

5. Qi Xi (七夕节; Qi Xi Jie), or Chinese Valentine Day: 7th day of 7th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Thursday, August 04, 2022).

6. Zhong Yuan (中元节; Zhong Yuan Jie), or Hungry Ghost Festival, or Ghost Month Festival: 15th day of 7th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Friday, August 12, 2022).

7. Zhong Qiu (中秋节; Zhong Qiu Jie), or Moon Cake Festival, Mid Autumn Festival: 15th day of 8th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Saturday, September 10, 2022).

8. Chong Yang (重阳节; Chong Yang Jie), or Double Ninth Festival: 9th day of 9th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Tuesday, October 4, 2022).

9. Dong Zhi (冬至节; Dong Zhi Jie), or Winter Solstice Festival: Wednesday, December 22, 2022.

10. The closing day of the year (ancestral prayer at home, Chinese New Year H-1): 30th day of 12th month Chinese calendar 4719 (Sunday, January 22, 2023).

1. Chinese New Year (Sincia) is the most important celebration for Chinese people in all corners of the world. Chinese New Year celebrations are celebrated on the 1st day of the 1st month of Chinese calendar.

2. Cap Go Meh represents 15th day of the 1st Chinese calendar. It is the last day of series of celebration for Chinese New Year for Chinese people. The term Cap Go Meh comes from Hokkian dialect in which the word “Cap go” means 15.

3. Cengbeng Day (Hokkian term, Hanzi : 清明节; Pinyin : Qing Ming Jie). This day happen in every April 4, 5, or 6 (it depends on the existence of leap year).

Most of Chinese people all around the world carry out the tradition of pilgrimage to the graves of their parents / ancestors in this celebration. Cengbeng Day itself is one of the moments for large family gatherings.

4. Bakcang day (Hokkian term, Hanzi : 端午节; Pinyin : Duan Wu Jie) is the day for “eating bakcang”. On the Qu Yuan’s death celebration, there are also (sport) rowing activity, especially rowing Dragon boat, or Pehcun (Hokkian term, Hanzi : 扒船; Pinyin : Ba Chuan). This celebration happens every 5th day of 5th month of Chinese calendar.

5. Qixi Festival (七夕节; Qixi Jie) is one of traditional celebration in Chinese society. Qixi day is known as “Chinese Valentine Day”. The celebration happens every 7th day of 7th month of Chinese calendar. Qixi day is based on a romantic story between a young shepherd (Niulang) and a weaver girl (Zhi Nu).

6. Zhong Yuan Festival (中元节; Zhong Yuan Jie) or Hungry Ghost Festival month (鬼月; Gui Yue), or the 7th month (七月; Qi Yue), is a celebration and a tradition in Chinese society.

This tradition falls in every 15th day of 7th month of Chinese calendar. In this day, the gate of hell is being opened, and death souls will come to visit earth.

7. Autumn Festival (中秋节; Zhongqiu Jie) is a day “to eat moon cake” or “to eat pia cake”. According to Chinese calendar, this celebration happen in every 15th day of 8th month.

This celebration is the second biggest celebration after Chinese New Year (CNY). This celebration is marked by the presence of a full moon, which is considered the embodiment of the Moon Goddess (legends of Chang E and Hou Yi).

8. Chong Yang Festival (重阳节; Chongyang jie) or famously known as Double Nine Festival is a traditional celebration in Chinese society.

This celebration is celebrated as Elderly Day (according to Chinese society, a double 9 (99) means long life and good health). Chongyang Festival falls every 9th day of the 9th month of the Chinese calendar.

9. Dongzhi Festival (冬至; Dongzhi) or winter solstice, is a Chinese celebration of the Dongzhi cycle, which usually falls on December 22. This festival is celebrated with family reunions, while eating tangyuan (汤圆), or balls of glutinous rice in a sweet soup, which symbolize reunion.

Ronde is in the form of balls with various colors and sweet soup, as a symbol of the integrity of the family.
